The smartphone generation, they call us. A group of people overtaken by the urge to connect through the numerous social media outlets present on the world wide web, and in the doing so have become oblivious to their other duties in life. What have I been saying?

The reality is that most of us are addicted to being on social media constantly, checking updates, stalking crushes, laughing at skits, meeting new people and strengthening unworthy old relationships. While this is not inherently bad, we have taken the addiction to new heights and it is now almost impossible to separate a child of this age from his/her smartphone because they don’t want to miss their those status updates.

I’m not here to slag you for being addicted to social media, that’s your problem. But if you’re going to be spending all your time on Instagram and Facebook, why not make some money while at it. At least, you’ll stop disturbing the world about being broke.

I know you’re already getting primed and asking yourself, “is it really possible to make money through social media, or is this guy just fluffing??”. I’ll tell you right now that it’s very possible. I’ve done it countless times, and I’ve helped a lot of people do it. Granted you won’t make millions, but you’ll make some extra spending cash for doing the same thing you’re always doing. Or you might just make millions, who knows?

Below are some of the most potent methods I know that can help you make money with Social Media.

 

1. Build Your Followers

Now you believe you can make money through social media, don’t think you can just go ahead and start making money with your 10 followers? The truth is you need a sizeable followership before you can dive into making money with social media, because the more followers or fans you have, the more money you’ll be able to make.

I’m not saying you need to have a million followers before you get started or anything, but you at least need a thousand. Once you have a thousand followers, you can keep building from there while making money at the same time.

So how do you build a huge following if you’re not a major celebrity?? Which I guess you are not even close to. Simply, start engaging more people on your favourite social media platforms. Follow people and ask them to follow you back. Tweet several times a day. Try to bring out your unique personality on social media, and you’ll blow your following over the roof. Stay original always and be honest with your followers. Like, comment on and share other people’s (meaningful) posts, and they’ll do the same for you.

There are various methods available for building an audience on social media and as you get more experienced in this area, you’ll understand more of them.

2. Promote Products and Services

Many companies will pay you to promote their products and services to your following and you get a commission every time someone buys something through your link, you can call that affiliate marketing. The amount you’ll make will varies from product to product while some will give you a percentage of the sale price. Make sure you read the terms and conditions before you register for any program.

Obviously, the larger your audience, the more chances you have of making a sale so don’t stop building that following. Promote products and services in a fun, entertaining way that will make people salivate to use them and you’re sure to make sales. Also, remember to get creative and let your uniqueness shine through. There are several affiliate programmes out there, and marketplaces that connect you to companies looking for affiliate marketers. 3. Sponsored posts

A sponsored post is another way to promote a company’s products or services or just create brand awareness. The difference is that you’ll receive a flat fee instead of commissions per sale.

Sponsored posts are supposed to be informal and fun. For example, you could share a picture on Instagram of you wearing a T-shirt made by the company you’re promoting. Or you could share your experience about a specific food item you tried, or Tweet about an upcoming sale at a retail store. Get creative, be fun and get paid.

If you’re a really experienced social media user and know how to keep up with the times, you can market yourself as a social media manager through your social media accounts. If companies think you know what you’re doing, you might just get hired. You’ll be required to make daily posts, keep their accounts updated, and grow their following. Use your own social media accounts to market yourself. If companies see a large following on your accounts, they’re more likely to hire you.
